Procedure Summary

  • SkinPen is a state-of-the-art, medical-grade, FDA-approved device used during microneedling sessions to minimize the appearance of acne scars, fine lines, moderate-to-severe wrinkles and deep folds and scars all over the body.

  • SkinPen can be used anywhere on the body to target the following concerns:

    • Fine lines ( typically face, neck & chest)

    • Acne and surgical scars

    • Stretch marks

  • 15 mins of topical numbing, followed by a 30-45 min procedure depending on the areas being treated.

  • Microneedling should be done as a series of 4-6 treatments spaced one month apart for optimal results. After achieving your desired results, maintenance treatments 1-2 times per year is recommended. Consider adding Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) to enhance your treatment!

  • Mild to moderate erythema (redness caused by inflammation from injury to the skin) is an expected outcome for the first 24 hours. Avoid retinol use and sun exposure for 5-7 days post procedure.

  • Optimal results are seen after a series of 3-6 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart. Results vary depending on skin quality and the severity of the skin condition being addressed.

FAQs

What is the downtime?

Whether you’re doing SkinPen for acne scars or other skin issues, the skin will appear bright and red following your session. Because of this, we do not recommend planning any important events immediately after your appointment. Downtime varies from person to person, but generally, the redness and swelling will last for about 24 hours after your microneedling treatment.

Why should I add PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) to my treatment?

When PRF is directed into the small channels created in the skin, this advanced regenerative skin treatment kick-starts tissue repair and further enhances collagen production for a firmer, smoother, and more youthful glow.

What do I need to avoid post-procedure?

To ensure proper healing the following is recommended:

  • Avoid direct sunlight and exposure to harmful UV rays

  • Do not go swimming or immerse your face in water

  • Avoid strenuous exercise or any activities that promote sweating

  • Do not apply make-up or lotions the day of treatment. Only use gentle products until the skin is fully healed (1-2 weeks)

Is the procedure painful?

A topical anesthetic is used to numb the skin prior to treatment and the procedure is very tolerable. Because the needles are very fine, most patients would describe SkinPen as mild discomfort but not painful.

Am I a candidate for SkinPen?

All skin types are candidates for treatment as long as you do not have any active infections or lesions! Candidates should be prepared to wait 1 – 2 months after the initial four treatments before seeing results. Although this treatment is safe and effective, it is not recommended for people with recent sun exposure, pregnant women or individuals on Accutane.
